Kaapsehoop is a funny little orphan village that fell out of the history books and landed halfway between the extremes of today’s trout country and the heat of the Kruger Park lowveld.
It came into this world suddenly during the 1880s, when someone – probably lost in the in the thick summer mists – stumbled into a creek and found more of South Africa’s hidden gold.
The orphan never really matured, because still today a stand is just big enough for an ox wagon, a couple of tents, some picks and shovels and a gold prospectors pan.
Once known as Duiwels Kantoor(Devils Office) with its rough beginnings, it became a settlement in later years attracting about 2000 residents in the vicinity.
It managed to ride the ups and downs of time, like the undulating grassy hilltops upon which it stands, finally ending up in the early 1990’s virtually abandoned but for 13 remaning residents. Since then it has experienced another ‘boom’ heading for a maximum population of about 300 people Further expansion has been prohibited due to forestry land.
There is no industry here or status but the quaint village gathers momentum against the odds. Its rare and unusual little bit of heaven on top of the world. Added distractions are a rare blue swallow nesting sights and wild horses centred around the village. So come and enjoy our self contained cottage. You might never be the same again.

by Wolfram BorgersDear Pam, thanks for having been a magnificent host to us. Our stay at your beautiful house in Kaapsehoop over the Christmas Days was an absolute highlight of our trip through your amazing country. The house was very spacy and comfortable for us eight persons. We all slept wonderful and we all were able do everything what we wanted to do there. The kids could romp around specially on the beautiful lawn while we adults could sit outside on the spacy covered terasse, sheltered from the heavy sun or sometimes from a short but heavy thunderstorm. We could relax, have a beautiful braai, cook, store our drinks and food in the huge fridge and clean our washings so that we were well set up again when we left your beautiful house. Even the surrounding from Kaapsehoop was very beautiful. It looked somehow like Switzerland and we had some beautiful walks, specially to the escarpment, where we had a stunning look over the lowfeld. One of the big advantages of Kaapsehoop is also the closeness to Nelspruit, where we could easy do all our shoppings and to the Kruger Park. It’s very easy to enjoy the Krüger Park from early in the morning up to the evening and then easily to return back to Kaapsehoop. When we left Kaapsehoop then, we were totally relaxed and recovered. Again, thank you very much, we have had a very pleasant time and experience. Keep well and please let us stay in contact. With love Hildegard and Wolfram Borgers from Germany.
by Charles WattThank you for allowing us to stay at the house the 12th and 13th December 2014. As usual we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and saw quite a few horses and had some lazy strolls at the rocks.
The house is looking absolutely beautiful with the improvements you have done and repainting, the house is a little gem. Moses was also very helpful and thank you to him.
